ABA Bank Account Opening (Cambodia) — No Trip to Phnom Penh Required

EUR 1337.00

Before you order: you must already hold an approved Cambodian business visa (E-class, one month). You apply for it yourself at evisa.gov.kh — 35 USD, roughly three business days — and our step-by-step guide walks you through every field. At checkout you confirm that the “e-Visa Approval” e-mail has arrived. Without it the order cannot go ahead.

ABA (Advanced Bank of Asia) is Cambodia's largest commercial bank by assets, deposits and lending, wholly owned by National Bank of Canada and rated B+ by S&P. You get a USD account in a genuinely dollarised economy, where the dollar is the working currency rather than an exotic extra, plus the Khmer riel account the bank requires alongside it.

A mobile app that matches anything in Europe, a Visa or Mastercard debit card free for the first year, SWIFT transfers straight from your phone, and a bank that will not close your account over bitcoin: the National Bank of Cambodia has explicitly allowed banks to handle crypto-asset transactions since December 2024.

You do not travel. Our agent in Phnom Penh represents you at the branch. Your passport stays with you and is never posted anywhere — only three signed forms make the journey. You activate the app yourself, and the one-time code arrives on your own, non-Cambodian number.

What to expect after payment:
1. Upload a photograph of your passport and a selfie holding it. We read your name, passport number and date of birth from the scan.
2. Tell us the mobile number you want to use for internet banking.
3. Download three PDF forms. Print each of them four times — twelve sheets in total — and sign every copy, without filling anything in. The three signatures must match each other almost exactly or the bank will refuse them.
4. Send the signed forms by DHL to our agent in Phnom Penh. You get the address and the courier instructions from us.
5. We open a private Signal group with you, our agent and our team.
6. The agent finishes the opening at the branch, and you activate the app. That last step takes about five minutes.

Worth knowing before you buy: Cambodian deposit protection covers around 12,500 USD per depositor, far less than the 100,000 EUR of the EU. A savings balance below 10,000 USD earns no interest. An account nobody touches costs 50 USD in the fourth year and 100 USD a year after that. An issued card lapses if it is not collected within 90 days. And an account abroad changes nothing about your obligations at home — interest is taxable income whether or not anyone reports it.
